Nové Mesto nad Váhom is the economic and cultural center of the Podjavorin region. It lies on the picturesque Považie below the Beckov Gate, where the Váh valley extends into the fertile lowland bordered by the last outcrops of the Little Carpathians and Považský Inovce. Since 1533, it has been the seat of the Novomestě Sloužnov district within the Nitra County. After 1886 it became a district town.

After 1989, the private sector began to develop in the town, gradually settling in Novo Mesto nad Váhom and continuing to establish foreign companies, the renaissance of which is recorded by self-employed people. There was an association of schools. After the initial decline, housing construction began.
