Monument to an important Slovak archaeologist and scientist.

Prof. PhDr. Bohuslav Chropovský has been working at the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (AÚ SAS) in Nitra since 1957, while in the years 1970-1990 he headed the institute as its director. He was the main representative of Slovak archeology and for several years - based on many interplay of circumstances, including the highly recognized international position of the Academy of Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences - he was the main coordinator of the scientific research program for archaeological research in the former Czechoslovakia.

High individual recognition was also enjoyed by the individual research activity of prof. Chropovsky - archeology of the Slavic period. His research, especially the great excavations in Nitra, numerous publications that culminated in a representative, multilingual compendium on the antiquity of the Slavs, ranked him among the well-known European archaeologists - Slavists. His goal has always been big projects, international recognition for Slovak science, higher financial support for archaeological research. III. UIAS Congress in 1975, XII. The UISPP Congress in 1991 and numerous other events testify to the fact that the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences maintained a high scientific position during its period after 1970 and recorded a significant increase in several ways.

The results of his scientific work are published in more than two hundred professional studies and two dozen monographs. In addition to and in addition to his position as director of the institute in 1970-90, he conceptually and methodically guided archaeological research throughout the former Czechoslovakia: he served as president of the UISPP at UNESCO and from 1988-1991 as secretary general of the UIAS. His long-term pedagogical activity is also significant. Among the many awards he received for his fruitful life, the most important is the "Pribin's Cross of the First Degree", which was awarded to him by the President of the Slovak Republic in 2004 for his lifelong scientific research contribution in the field of archeology.
