The origin of the village and its name
As it is also written on the page about the symbols of the village, Dunajská Lužná was established on January 1, 1974 by merging three originally independent villages: Nové Košarísk, Jánošíková and Nová Lipnice. During its existence, each of these municipalities had German, Hungarian and Slovak names. Nové Košariská was called Mišdorf in German, Mišérd in Hungarian, and since 1945, when the Slovak population moved there from Košarísk-Priepastný, Lubina and Bziniec, they have been called Nové Košariská. Jánošíková has been called Dienešdi or Dénešd since the 13th century. The name originated from the Latin name Dionysius, Dionýz. Sv. Dionysus was the first bishop of Paris and is one of the patrons of France. The village was named in 1945 after immigrants from Terchová - the birthplace of Jánošík. The third village from which today's Dunajská Lužná originated is Nová Lipnica, German Tartsendorf, Hungarian Torč. The Slovak name Nová lipnica was given in 1948, when the inhabitants of Veľká Lipnice na Orave, now belonging to Poland, moved into it.
